Prop 36: A Learning Session

PROP 36: A LEARNING SESSION

Prop 36 is The Drug and Theft Crime Penalties and Treatment-Mandated Felonies Initiative. If passed, what would it do? Would it help our homelessness crisis? Would it affect crime rates? Or would it make things worse? I have my insights/thoughts, but I'm not expert. Which is why… we’ve invited one of our favorite LA activists around -- Reverend Zach Hoover from LAVoice/PICO California/Faith in Action -- to talk to us about this proposition. [Full disclosure: Zach just broke his hip in a biking accident this week so it's unclear if he will be able to join us in person. But we can still gather and chat with him on zoom together.] Zach sees first hand what "tough on crime" laws do to communities. And what they don't do to lower crime.

We've also asked Robyn Williams and James Debacco to join. Both Robyn and James are advocates for criminal justice reform. They will share how Prop 36 would affect people with lived experiences in our carceral system.

I've said this before: this one is for me!  Please come. And bring someone along who needs to hear it.  t's maddening to me that this proposition will likely pass. It's up to us -- or maybe it's up to just me -- to keep that from happening.

You will be fed.  So, as always, if you don't want to come for the issue, come for the free food!
