NIX ON Prop 36 with HODG and the VERA INSTITUTE

I've written about Prop 36 recently.  It’s the proposition that will increase penalties for theft and drug trafficking and roll back Prop 47.  When I hear Dems at rallies chanting “We won’t go back” I don’t just think about our reproductive freedoms.  I also think about our criminal justice system.  Prop 36 IS “going back.”  It’s locking more people up.  And we have already learned that doesn’t work, haven’t we.  That’s why we passed Prop 47 in the first place.  

I know loads of you disagree with me on this -- you've emailed me and told me.  And let’s face it, I am no expert on this – or really any – topic.  Which is why Helen and I invited THE VERA INSTITUTE to come talk to us about Prop 36.  

The Vera Institute of Justice is a highly regarded non-profit dedicating to “ending the over-criminalization and mass incarceration of people of color, immigrants, and people experiencing poverty.”
