Lunch & Learn Lecture Series with Immaculate Heart
This past Saturday a group of Hoe-Doggers were making paper flowers in preparation for the Mother's Day Action, when the front door bell rang. It was my neighbor, Michelle Richards. Many of you probably know Michelle, given that she was the program director at Alexandria House for 20 years!
Michelle stopped by to let me know that she has taken a new job – at the Immaculate Heart Community. Did I know it? she asked. Hell, yes, I know it! It was the home to one of my heros, Sister Corita Kent! Sister Corita was the social justice pop art visionary -- who was also a nun -- and ran the insanely bad ass – and influential – art program at Immaculate Heart college. Here is some of her work:
She also had 10 rules for teachers and students that became pretty famous. I had them printed on mugs in my kitchen, and on cards in my office. Check these out. Words to live by, if you ask me (which you didn't!)
So yeah, I could go on and on about Sister Corita (if we ever get another dog, I am going to name her Corita). Anyway, back to Michelle, who was super excited that I knew about the Immaculate Heart Community -- and about Sister Corita -- but was really there to tell me about a new monthly in-person series that the IHC is hosting.
This Friday, the speaker is ARNALI RAY, from Hollywood Food Coalition. Michelle wants all of Hoe-Dog to be there. I told her we would! So please join so I'm not a liar.
