SUPPORTING MEASURE H: IN-PERSON EDUCATION SESSION

Here is what I've always wanted to happen:  all of us would participate in some form of direct service -- like the Lunch Drive -- and that would inspire us to learn about the issue -- say homelessness -- which would lead to us showing up for real policy change.  Sadly that chain of events never happened.  We do a fantastic job of making lunches, and buying groceries for folks.  But that has never led to us activating to change the policies that cause or worsen the crisis of people living on the street.  

The thing I never anticipated was that our front line work would lead to the organizations we collaborate with to reach out to us and ask us to work on policy with them!  Well, that just happened. 

Anthony from Covenant House reached out to see if HODG would help support and promote Measure H.  Apparently Measure H provides funding that is vital for Covenant House.   

The truth is, the folks working at Covenant House don't get paid enough as it is.  Many of them have to have second and third jobs!  As many of you already know, Nathan Sheets, the amazing leader of The Center moved out of California because he wasn't making enough to support his family.  I don't know what the leaders of our city think is going to happen if all the people who are on the front lines start quitting.  Who do they think is going ot take their place. 

I don't know much about Measure H.  Which is why I am going to this in-person education session at Covenant House.  This session will allow us to understand the measure, ask questions and learn more about what it will take to get approved. We will learn more about what it means to endorse the measure and how we can support signature collection (400K signatures are needed).  If you can't make the In-Person Session, there is an online session as well.  Please try to make one of them as we are going to be asking you all to collect signatures.
