HODG CLUBS ELEMENTARY

HODG CLUBS ELEMENTARY

Featured School: St. James Episcopal

Foster from St. James Episcopal School is our FIRST student to start a HODG elementary club! At their first meeting, the group made over 100 lunch bags for the unhoused!

Well done, you guys!

What’s a HODG Club?

In a HODG Club, elementary school aged kids will be part of a caring, welcoming community that is devoted to learning that each of us can make a difference - and how to do it.

What does HODG stand for?

HangOutDoGood.

How does a HODG Club work?

Each HODG Club is overseen by a HODG mentor as well as a volunteer adult (parent, older sibling, teacher, coach, etc.) Our hope is that this adult will take a fairly hands-off approach and let the children guide – and enjoy –  the process.

What do we do in a HODG CLUB?

That’s up to the kids! This is their club, so they decide what issue(s) they’re going to work on. That said, we do have a few basic requirements:

  1. ACTION. Every HODG Club organizes an action. What that action is, is up to the members. It can be making lunches for food insecure people, organizing a clothing drive, or some other way you want to make the world better.

  2. EDUCATION.  HODG Clubs educate themselves as much as they can about the issue they’re working on. That can mean inviting non-profits to talk to the group, sharing books on the subject or zooming in with elected officials.

  3. HODG MENTOR. Each club has a “mentor” who  supports your club by brainstorming ideas, troubleshooting problems, connecting you with experts, etc.

  4. Subscribe to the HODG NEWSLETTER. This is the best way for the club leader (the adult in the group) to stay connected with HODG and informed about all the do-good stuff going on in Los Angeles.

Who can start a HODG CLUB?

Anyone! Just reach out to us at hangoutdogood@gmail.com and we will connect you with a mentor right away! Can’t wait to meet you :)

HODG CA State Fair

Our elementary students volunteered at the HODG CA State Fair and were in charge of our snow cone machine! They did the BEST job.
