Tacos + Marie Glusenkamp Perez

TACOS + MARIE GLUSENKAMP PEREZ

I'm not a political insider. I know next to nothing about DC.  But there’s a feeling, a scent out there in the ether that even I’ve picked up. That we Dems are fucking it up nationally.  We’re turning people off.  With our group think, our obsession with identity politics, our tribalism.

Why do I bring this up?

Because I’m promoting an event for a candidate that some of you might not love.  Congressmember Marie Gluesenkamp Perez is not your typical Democrat. She speaks the language of white, rural, less educated voters, because that’s who’s in her district, in Washington State.  Since taking office in 2023, Marie’s voted with Republicans on student debt, and promotes gun rights. On the other hand, she’s a defender of reproductive rights, and unions and reversing climate change.  She’s a member of the bipartisan Problem Solver Caucus and Co-chair of the Blue Dogs Caucus.  Point is, she’s not easy to put in a box.

Marie flipped a R+5 seat by just two votes in each precinct.  It was the first time a Dem has represented WA-03 in 12  years.  This year will be a rematch against Republican Joe Kent, Trump's endorsed candidate.

I read up on Marie. Here’s one of the arguments that moved me: Marie keeping her seat in Washington State is not only important for Dems to flip the house, it’s also important for Democrats’ prospects in the Senate.  With the current Senate map, Democrats have to start win in Republican-leaning states to get a majority. And right now our party is relying on “deeply endangered legacy incumbents” like Sherrod Brown, and Jon Tester. These guys won’t be around forever. We need a new kind of Dem, a Dem that speaks to folks that don’t think exactly like you and me.  Because that’s what real democracy is.

Come meet Marie.  She’s a great candidate, who needs our support.
