COME HANG OUT WITH DA GEORGE GASCON

Some have lost faith. Whether it’s because of his managerial style.  His endorsement by anti-zionist, potentially antisemetic, orgs and individuals. Or because of all the backlash swirling around. 

 But I haven’t. I believe in George Gascon’s mission.  I believe in restorative justice for most cases.  I believe that our judicial system should seek the most fitting rather than the longest possible sentence  But that’s just me. And the LA Times who also endorsed him (See below) Here are some of the facts:

 A. Crime is NOT out of control.  In fact LAPD’s own data shows crime in the city of Los Angeles declined in 2023.

Here are the stats:
Violent crime down 10%
Homicides down 27%
Shootings down 17%
Property crime down 1%
Hate crimes down 5.8%
Fatal traffic crashes up 6.7%

B. Property Crime is NOT up. It is down 1% this year.  The more recent increased "smash-and-grabs” and car theft are part of a nationwide, not LA trend.

C. Proposition 47 is NOT responsible for an increase in theft.  (as stated above, property crime is down)  Prop 47 sets the line between grand theft (a felony) and petty theft (a misdemeanor) at $950.  It does NOT decriminalize theft. It is still a crime to steal less than $950, but it is charged as a misdemeanor rather than felony. The City Attorney prosecutes misdemeanors. Studies find no correlation between the passing of Proposition 47 and an increase in crime.

I could go on.  Instead I want to invite you to sit with the DA himself, at my house, and ask him whatever you want.  He -- and some of his more knowledgeable (than me!) supporters  -- will hopefully convince you that he is still the best person for the job.
