A CONVERSATION ABOUT OCT 7th & BEYOND with LIZ NAFTALI
It's hard to imagine being excited about an antisemitism learning group, but I am. Since mid-Oct a group of about 20 of us has been meeting regularly to learn about antisemitism and about the crisis in the Mid East. The group is “run” by Lisa Hofheimer, who while not an expert, knows all of them. And seems to know a helluva a lot herself. She is amazing.
The members in the group represent a big range. There are non-Jews who know nothing about Israel or Jew hatred. There are Jews who have spent months in Israel, have family there and could teach a class. And everything in between. The things that hold us together are our belief that knowledge is power, that Hamas is a lethal terrorist organization, and that Israel should exist. We also have an understanding that we come together to learn, not to argue political sides.
If this sounds like a group you’d be interested in joining, email hangoutdogood@gmail.com. Put "antisemitism" in the subject line. We will send you information about our next meeting.
We have also started – actually Ada has started – an antisemitism task force that is focused on actions we can take in the face of hatred. Please let us know if that is of interest.
Our group is also hosting a virtual conversation with LIZ NAFTALI on Jan 16. Liz has family in Israel, and was in the country on Oct 7th. Many of her family members were murdered by Hamas that day. Hamas also kidnapped Liz' 4 year old niece. Liz worked hard to get Abigail released, and is now trying to do the same for other hostages.
Liz will be joining us on zoom to share her story. All are welcome.
