HODG LEARNING SERIES: Anti-semitism and the Current Crisis: How the heck did we gEt here?
Confused by what’s happening in Israel? Wondering how the hell we got here? Feeling ill-equipped to have a conversation about current events. Us too!! That’s why we are getting together – on Zoom, at least for starters – to educate ourselves about Israel.
The objective of this series is to create a space where Jews and committed allies can learn and internalized historical facts about the history of Israel and of antisemitism. We will learn ways we can effectively teach people what antisemitism is, the harm it creates and how to discuss and dispel historical tropes and inaccuracies.
* Note: To be clear, this is not a place to debate Israel’s current actions. We define Hamas as a terrorist organization that does not represents all Palestinians. We recognize that untold numbers of people will be killed and not all of them are terrorists. This is a space for learning and fighting back against the oldest for of hate. Because if we don’t, who will?
** Note #2: This is intended to be a series of conversations. That said, we will start with one, and see how it goes.
*** Note #3: We are still deciding on the reading for the first session -- Lisa Hofheimer, who works in this field professionally, is helping us -- once we decide we will email you.
**** Note #4: For the past few weeks, a small group of us have been meeting, virtually, for a HODG Huddle. This learning session -- at least the first one -- is happening at the same time as the Huddle. I love the huddle! It has made me feel connected to HODG while I am in Rhode Island so I am going ot try and make sure we can have both. But for next week, we are doing this convo instead.

A HODG Learning Series:
Anti-Semitism and The Current Crisis:
How the Heck Did We Get Here?
Tuesday, Oct 24
7pm (PT)
Virtual (for starters since Chris + I are both OOT)
** We are not trying to solve the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict in these convos. We are trying to understand the conflict so we can talk about it with others more confidently. And so we can identify and counter anti-semitism wherever it exists. If you are looking to persuade/argue/accuse others who might think differently then you about this emotional topic, or if you already know 'how the heck we got here', this convo is probably not for you.
